For the Paris Nuit Blanche last week artist Dominique Blais came up with an interesting project.

On Line 14, which runs between the Gare de Lyon and Madeleine, the jingles and public announcements in the trains and stations were replaced by files made by o.lamm and Kumisolo. Their announcements replicated the polite ones heard on Japanese public transport, creating an intriguing sense of cultural schizophonia.

Unfortunately the RATP cut off the announcements at 9pm because some arsonist set the Gare de Lyon on fire and more “real” announcements were necessary… which is to say, French ones.
